Road resurfacing under way in Mitchells Plain

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate advises residents, road users, businesses and the broader public of roadworks that have recently commenced in Eastridge, Mitchells Plain. The team also started with roadworks along De Duine Avenue in Westridge, Mitchells Plain today, 10 September 2024.
In Eastridge the road resurfacing will take place along Rigoletto Crescent; Don Carlos Street; Elephant Street; Blesbok Street and Bontebok Crescent. These roadworks will continue until Friday 20 September 2024, if all goes according to plan.
In Westridge the works will take place along De Duin Avenue between Morgenster Road and Silversands Avenue(including the Morgenster Road intersection) as well as the portion of De Duin Avenue between Silversands Avenue and Silvermyn Close. These roadworks will continue until Wednesday, 2 October 2024, if all goes according to plan.
'Our Road Infrastructure Management team has prioritised these roads as they are currently showing visible signs of aging and deterioration of the surfacing and pavement structure. Work will take place between 08:00 and 16:30 from Monday to Friday, weather permitting. These projects are just some of the examples of how Urban Mobility is maintaining the City's road network, and keeping Cape Town moving,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
The resurfacing works includes the following:
- Milling and removal of existing road surface
- Resurfacing of the road with asphalt wearing course over the full width of the road
- The removing of damaged kerbs
- Replacing damaged kerbs
- Installing road signs (warning and information) and road studs where required
- Demolishing and removing damaged concrete on sidewalks and reinstating it with new cast in situ concrete
- Removing damaged concrete bollards and installing new precast concrete bollards
The City encourages road users to be cautious in and around the area where work is taking place.
